Bronze okimono of a horse by Tsukada Shukyo

A cast bronze shakudo-patinated horse with gilt eyes.
Signed on the bronze base in chiselled characters " Shinyusai koku "(carved by Shinyusai)
with a seal " Shukyo ".
Inscription on the silver panel underside of bronze base " Meiji 39th (1906), November, Shukyo saku
(made by shukyo) " with original wood stand, signed box and second storage box.
With a scroll note explaining "this horse was cast only one piece as the gift to recipient".

Tsukada Shukyo (1848-1914)
Tsukada Shukyo learned painting from Shibata Zeshin and became an assistant to Kanō Natsuo.
He was named Teishitsu Gigeiin (Artist to the Imperial Household) in 1913.
